Nikolaj Lie Kaas will not return as Detective Carl Mørck after filming of the fourth in the very popular series of Dept Q movies completes this year, the actor revealed at the Robert Awards last night (Feb 5th 2017).His announcement follows comments made by Jussi Adler-Olsen,the author of the book series on which the films are based,in October last year when he expressed doubts over the casting of Lie Kaas and Fares Fares (who plays Assad) as his main characters. He said ''With all due respect to both of them, they are talented actors, but maybe they are not the right ones''.
Nikolaj said ''It's going to be over. It is the very last, for my part.I think we have done well. There is nothing for Jussi to be sorry for.I do not think we have belittled his books.Jussi Adler-Olsen should be allowed to speak his mind,if I had written the books I would feel protective of the characters. I am happy that we have one film left and we should be proud of what we have achieved'' It is unclear at this stage who will be cast as Mørck in future films or if Fares Fares will continue as Assad. The fourth film 'Journal 64' is based on the book 'The Purity of Vengeance' aka 'Guilt'.
